She resumed acting in the 1970s, doing occasional television and film job, including Peter O'Toole's 1982 comedy "My Favorite Year." But Stuart's later career would have remained largely a footnote if James Cameron had not chosen her for his 1997 epic about the doomed luxury liner that struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912.

Stuart co-starred as Rose Calvert, the 101-year-old survivor played by Kate Winslet as a young woman. Both earned Oscar nominations, Winslet as best actress and Stuart as supporting actress.

Photography exhibition/ The photography exhibition of Wakilur Rahman/ The many perspectives of Wakilur Rahman

The photography exhibition of Wakilur Rahman/ The many perspectives of Wakilur Rahman

Dhaka Art Centre has organised an installation show, titled “In Books, You Can Read” of Wakilur Rahman. The photography exhibition was inaugurated on September 23. A number of leading painters, writers and educationists attended the inaugural session. A musical presentation was held to mark the opening ceremony.

Wakil is simultaneously a painter and printmaker. The artist has been dividing his time between Dhaka and Berlin since 1988. Based in Berlin for the last 22 years, he has nevertheless always been a force in the local art scene with his new ideas and novel thought-pattern.

Last year, Wakil along with his friend artist Dhali Al Mamoon arranged an photography exhibition titled “Kagajer Chhaya” at the National Museum highlighting the role and impact of print media in contemporary society.

Wakil has been addressing social issues through his artworks-especially painting and installation since the early '80s. Wakil and some of his contemporaries formed a group called 'Samay' in the mid '80s. Samay documented our social, cultural and various economic crises through their artworks.

In his installation , “In Books, You Can Read”, the artist's main aesthetic concern is readable and unreadable texts and he formulates his ideas using books that have been flipped through presenting them both as objects of contemplation and bearers of conceptual coding. At the exhibition, his books at times seem worn out, burnt and immersed in hazy letters. Sometimes the alphabets of the books look clear and from time to time it is very difficult to read from the books.

Wakil seeks to present the various perspective on books and emphasises the importance of books in our lives. His books also highlight an ancient era. His books are a means for him to address the duality between memory and forgetfulness. The aim is to make onlookers aware of their roots, their present existence, and their future -- in the context of the book.

Wakilur Rahman was born in 1961. He completed his B.F.A. in 1981 from Dhaka Art College (presently the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka). He went on to acquire a M.F.A from Central Academy of Fine Arts, China.

The exhibition will continue till October 12.
